2009-4 April 26

Minutes of the Deer Creek Homeowners Association of Livonia Board of Directors
Held at Sylvia Leski’s house April 26, 2009
Approved 5-31-09

Present: Denny Behrendsen, Bob Moore, Sylvia Leski, Dave Wood, Brian Gulick, Roy Field, Walt Gerstner, and Diane Tsaprazis (8).

Minutes: Diane read the minutes from the 4-2-09 Annual Meeting which were reviewed with a few changes; they will remain a draft until they are approved at the 2010 annual meeting. Diane also read the 3-2-09 meeting minutes which were approved with a few changes.

Treasurer’s Report:
- Dave distributed March and April reports. To date, we have received dues from 148 homes; only 18 that paid last year have not yet paid this year. We have 4 paid non-member homes. Thus, 61 homes (29%) have not paid. Dave noted that the postcard mailing he handled for the Annual Meeting was inexpensive ($50 to Speedy printing + $63 to the Post Office for the cards) and successful as we improved attendance. We approved the reports.
- Dave presented a draft of a letter to send to the 61 homes that have not paid. Sylvia suggested we contact the homeowner who offered to help with collections after we send out this letter and receive any responses.

Landscaping:
- Walt recommended that Uncle Froggy’s Landscaping perform the spring cleanup at 8 Mile for $875 including mulch. He also recommended that we spend $765 to have them remove the pachysandra/weeds and install sod. This total is below the $2,000 we have budgeted for this area. Denny recommended that we protect the lights in some fashion from mowers. Bob asked if the tall grasses will be trimmed; Walt said he will make sure it is included. We would plant annuals ourselves. Walt asked if we want black diamond edging – we said no as we prefer a shovel edge. We approved having UF do the work.
- Denny pointed out that the lights around the trees on the 8 Mile Island were not working, so he bought two replacements.
- Denny reported that the Gill Road entrance rocks have been in the street and that the two lights on each side appear to have been vandalized. We decided we will try to fix rather than replace them.
- Also regarding the Gill & Bretton entrance area, the homeowner on the north side wants to improve the back side of the sign area. Sylvia noted that the fronts need to match on each side. Denny will contact the homeowner and tell him it is okay to remove the stones in the back and to please run his plans by us.
- Dave called the City on 4-1-09 to have them install the island water meters
- Annual planting: Tentatively, we will plant Monday May 18th. UF must be finished first. Dave will look for records left by Suzanne Steffes regarding what was planted in the past.
- Walt reported that Island #3 had a leak in the City water main. The City tore up a shrub and some edging over the winter. Denny said the City is supposed to repair what they damage, so Walt will call the Water Dept. We may ask UF to do repair if necessary.

Solicitation Letter: Denny called the homeowner who used our directory (it is not to be used for direct mail or telephone advertising). He apologized, and will send dues check.

Car Complaint: Denny will follow up.

Garage Sale: Pauline (Condon) Kehoe will Chair the sale again to be held the 1st weekend in June.

Bicentennial Park Entrance:
- Homeowner Mike Marxer and Bob Moore talked to the park maintenance staff. They did post a sign about cleaning up after dogs, located about 50 feet into the path.
- The path was recently re-slagged and re-mulched and fallen timbers were removed.
- Bob pointed out that we need new split rail fences at the entrance.

Paving: Dave will take pictures of the areas that need to be fixed in preparation for an upcoming meeting with the City.

Next Meeting: May 31st 4 p.m. at Diane’s house.
