2016-9 Sept 15

Minutes of the Deer Creek Homeowners Association of Livonia

Board of Directors

Held at Diane Tsaprazis’s house

September 15, 2016

                                                            Approved 10-19-16

Present:  Denny Behrendsen, Bob Moore, Tenley Jackson, Walt Gerstner, Marsha McLean, and Diane Tsaprazis (6).

Minutes:  The minutes of 8-17-16 were approved with no changes.

Treasurer’s Report:  In Terry Millis’s absence, she emailed a report showing our 2016 Budget and Actual figures to date and Variances, along with a list of checks written and deposits made.  Revenue to date is $16,125 as compared to $16,500 budgeted, although it is an increase over the $15,900 reported at our last meeting.  We recommended that Terry report Donations on a separate line for any home that pays more than the standard $100 annual dues. We received 1 more dues payment not included on this report.  DTE electrical expenses are on schedule, and may be a bit under budget due to the new fixtures at 8 Mile.  On the expense side, we need to know what we budgeted for Water & Irrigation – we spent $601 placed on a new line, and we probably originally budgeted for it in the Interior and Exterior Island Maintenance lines.  We reviewed and discussed the report.

Island Water Meters:  Bob Ellis came to the meeting to report that he called the City, who told him they remove the meters sometime between October1st through the 15th.  Denny asked for approval to turn off all island water except for the 8 Mile Island with the new plantings; we approved.  Bob left because he wasn’t feeling well.

Landscaping:  Marsha reported her meeting with Saxton’s will be tomorrow at 10:30 am.  With the water being shut off so soon, we cannot do more planting this year.  The Bobo hydrangeas are white but didn’t develop their full color because they were planted late.  The Lantana is doing well and may bloom through November.  We will replace the wave petunias with mums soon.  Marsha, Tenley and Diane will make a decision and install mums at 8 Mile and maybe Gill Road.  Bob M. has the scarecrows and fall wreaths.  We need to buy 3 corn stalks.  Bob E. had wire we used last year.  We will install about the last week of September.

Holiday Decorations:  Per Denny, we have a long row of net lighting about 5 or 6 feet wide that we used on the boxwood that was on the 8 Mile Island.  We will try to think of where we could use them again, maybe at Gill Road.

Lights for Gill Road Entrance:  Denny reported that Jerry, who used to work for Allen Electric, called Denny because he is now doing custom lighting design.  Terry, the installer, recently brought out a trial LED rectangular light, which covers well, but has very harsh light.  Lighting from the side may be considered.  Walt asked if there is a way to make the lighting warmer.  Denny explained the temperatures with the higher the number the whiter the light, with the one Terry showed us being a 3,500.  The problem with Gill Road is that we don’t have much distance available in front of the signs.  The landscaping and lighting width are both considerations.

Paving:  The progress on 8 Mile seems slow right now; the center lane is terrible.  Farmington Road is Wayne County’s responsibility too.  We are in the 3rd year of a 10 year bond issue approved by voters for City road upgrades.

Livonia Director of Inspection:  Diane reported that the Observer Newspaper wrote that Alex Bishop passed away suddenly at age 67.  Denny said that he knew Alex was helpful in his job, but we did not work with him.

Telephone Directory:  Diane reported that Cathedral Directories is set to publish our directory on January 10, 2017.  This means our information is due no later than December 10th.  Terry will prepare the homeowner Excel file, and Diane will edit the front matter pages.  If anyone knows of any possible advertisers, please notify Diane.

Welcome Committee:  Tenley reported that she is watching 4 homes currently for sale.  So far, only 1 home has sold this year.

City Tree Pruning:  After a conversation with the City, Denny would like a group of us to walk the neighborhood to make a list of trees between the sidewalk and the street that need pruning.

Next Meeting:  Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 7 pm at Diane’s house.
